World Tomistoma Day 2025

August 5th is World Tomistoma Day, drawing attention to a secretive crocodile species native to Malaysia and Indonesia. While it's a well-known species with people working with crocodiles, Tomistoma is pretty unknown to the general public. Its current conservation status is 'Vulnerable' due to the continuing loss of swamp forest habitat occurring over the past three decades in Southeast Asia because of logging, plantation development, forest fires, and more. The observance aims to raise the profile of this little-known croc and encourage conservation efforts for the species.
